Ken, Wilson and Peggy Win Birkenhead Mixed Threes

Ken Moir, Wilson Henry and Peggy Wikaira have won the Birkenhead RSA Last Chance Ham Mixed Threes held earlier today at the Birkenhead RSA beating a team led by Peter Wearing. There were only 16 entries. This must have been disappointing to the organisers who have held this event at the same time for a good number of years. Unfortunately the Avondale RSA decided to have a mixed pairs ham tournament on the same day which undoubtedly took some players away. Six teams did travel down from Whangarei to play and were joined by 10 local teams. Ken Moir had the first 180 and highest score with 145.

In the Avondale RSA mixed pairs Brendon Deed of Swanson RSA and Rina Coady of West City won the final playing Mike Collet and Ngauru Wikaira of the Mt Wellington RSA. There were 16 entries in this tournament also.

On Sunday 19 December at 12 noon West City Darts Association are having their AGM. It will be followed immediately by a ham tournament for members only.

Cody Harris wins Men's Champ of Champ Singles

Cody Harris of the Auckland Darts Association defeated John Sinclair of the Northern Area in the men's Champion of Champion singles at the Otahuhu Working men's club, Otahuhu on Saturday 4 th December 2010, 4 to 1. The event was held directly after the pairs reported below.

In the final Cody won the bull and won the first two legs with two 21 darters. John then hit back with brilliant leg of 13 darts hitting 140,140,180, 29 then double 6. Cody picked up the next leg with a 21 darter and the final leg with a 17 darter.

John has been a very consistent performer in this event winning it 9 previous times and winning it 5 years in a row prior to this defeat by Cody. John hit 10 scores of 100 or more in final including two 180's. Cody had 13 scores of 100 or more. Interestingly John had the better average of 79.29 per throw as opposed to Cody's average of 78.2 per throw. This was due to the 13 darter John threw which impacted the averages.

There were 24 qualifiers, 21 x 180's, John Sinclair had the most with 5, John also had the highest finish with 110. John defeated Richard Te Whero of Cosmos 3 to 0 in the semi final and Cody defeated Neil Francis of the Northern area 3 to 0 in his semi final.
Girl Kahaki, Sybil Pugh and helpers did an excellent job of organising and running this event.

Next Sunday there are two ham tournaments taking place. One a mixed pairs at the Avondale RSA with a 12 noon check. The other a mixed threes at the Birkenhead RSA with a 9.30 check in.

Cody and Sonny Harris Win Champ of Champ Pairs

Cody and Sonny Harris of Auckland Darts Association have won the Champion of Champion men's pairs held at the Otahuhu Working Mens Club, Otahuhu on Saturday, 4th December 2010. They defeated Sam Bryant and Willie Hopokingi of Counties Manukau in the final 4 to 3.

A interesting feature of the game was that the first six legs all went against the throw. In the deciding leg Cody won the bull and had the three dart advantage. It was only then that the leg went with the throw and Cody hit the winning double. Only Cody and Sam were to hit the doubles. Sam and Willy won their legs with 20, 27 and 32 darts. Cody and Sonny won their legs with 20,21,20 and 19 darts.

In the semi final Sam and Willie defeated John Sinclair and Neil Francis of the Northern area. Sony and Cody defeated Monty Tuhua and Ken Moir of West City in their semi final.

24 x 180's were scored. John Sinclair hit the most with 4.
