Mike Day Benefit Night

Thursday was a 'benefit night' for Mike Day and his trip to the UK for the BDO World Champs at the Lakeside. 68 people entered the Ham and Chicken drawn pairs competition and many turned up in fancy dress to add to the fun. It was a light hearted night befitting a celebration that one of our own will be on the World Championship stage. With the entry fees and several raffles run on the night an impressive $1020 was raised to help Mike with his expenses for the trip.

Because so many people turned up for the drawn pairs and the fun atmosphere the games progressed slowly to the point where we would have been there well into the morning to complete the event. It was eventually re-drawn with the same pairs into a one life knockout to make sure we did complete the event.

The eventual winners of the Hams in the Final were Emma Heavey and Mike Radford who beat Peggy Wikaira and Mike McLeod, to won the Chickens.

All the best to Mike and we hope he goes far and can even better the recent feats of Rob Szabo v Phil Taylor in the PDC World Champs !

Super Series Final No.2

Monty Tuhua was in great form as he took out the second final on Friday Night.
The night started badly for him losing his first life game 6-0 to an impressive Troy Henderson.
As champions can do, Monty re focussed on the 2nd life and played some outstanding darts, defeating Blair Hutchison, Nathan Holt, Dion Toki and Mike Day before playing Tukina Weko in the final game of the night.

As we head into the final week on Friday night the top 4 are Monty Tuhua, Tukina Weko. RTW and Dion Toki.

Mike Day to play in BDO World Championship !

Congratulations and well done Mike Day! Mike has been nominated to represent New Zealand at the BDO World Champs at the Lakeside in England on the 4-12th of January 2014. More details can be found on the NZDC website here.
West City Club Captain Mike is over the moon with his nomination and said its "a dream come true". Mike has been a dedicated NZDC player over many years and has performed at the highest level in NZ for several of those years. He fully deserves this opportunity to have a crack at some of the world's best and I'm sure all dart players at West City as well as the rest of New Zealand will be cheering him on come January.

SUPER SERIES - TOP16 FINALS 1

MONTE TUHUA DOMINATES TOP 16 FINALS 1...
Monte Tuhua was supreme in the Super Series Top16 Finals 1 winning both knockout rounds of the two life system and so not requiring a final. The finals were played over the best of 11 leg games. Monte defeated Tukinoa "Tuks" Weko in the first life final and then Richard "RTW" TeWhero in the second life final to complete a dominating performance.
There were some 'no shows' for the first round of the finals due to other commitments but hopefully all will be on deck for the 2nd round of the Top16 Finals.

SUPER SERIES - PLATE FINALS 1

PLATE FINALS ROUND 1 TAKEN OUT BY GEOFF KOSTER...

A sleepy Geoff Koster took out the Plate section of the Super Series Finals Round 1 beating Gary Whyte in a 1am finish. The best of 7 legs knockout games certainly tested the staying power of the players with unlucky Dave Curreen making the penultimate games of the the two life system loosing to first Gary and then Geoff to miss out on the final. Special mention to youth player Aimee Holt who hit her first 180, well done Aimee !

Sydney Darts Masters

Like many others I was in a rush to get home from darts on Thursday Night to watch the Sydney Darts Masters. With two Kiwis players in the last 16 there was added interest, particularly when one of them, Monty Tuhua, a good mate and a team member of West city Darts was playing.
When the draw came out I believed Warren Parry had a great chance to defeat Paul Nicholson, Monty's draw was far more intimidating.
As a Kiwi supporter I was a little disappointed when Warren was beaten. I still think he could have won that game but for one missed double.

The Fourth game of the night, out comes Monty, I thought he looked a little nervous (that is not a bad thing) but he also looked focussed.
The game started, it was apparent from Jackpots first throw Monty was going to have play the game of his life. In minutes Jackpot had raced to a 5-0 lead. A white wash was on the cards, Monty, as is his way, never gave up and took the 6th leg with a 62 peg.
In the final leg, Jackpot again showed why he is one of the best in  the world, the game won 6-1.

I went to bed disappointed for Monty, for West City and for New Zealand.

The next day I watched the game again without emotion.
Did Monty actually play well? My opinion, taking into account he was playing Adrian Lewis the world number 3 player, (and Adrian is playing really well) was YES Monty did play well.
He hit a number of good scores and he took a leg off the world number 3.
The reality was Jackpot just played AWESOME.
Well done Monty, you played in a televised World Darts Tournament. You showed all the qualities you have, ability, respect, humour and humility.
You did yourself and West City proud.

APDE Singles this weekend

On Thursday a playoff was held to find the four West City Men and Ladies to play in this weekends APDE singles.

The four men are:
Stephen Hanley, Peter Bloomfield, Nathan Holt and Charles Shiers.
180's hit during the playoff: Dave Curreen, Jack Mitchell and Peter Smith.
100+ Finishes:  Charles Shiers 117, Geoff Koster 138, Stephen Hanley 114
100+ starts: Jack Mitchell 103, Charles Shiers 112 & 116, Geoff Koster 130, Stephen Hanley 130,
Dave Curreen 130.

Mens Fours for APDE.
Players please note there is a review being done of the playoff card from Thursday night as there was a substantial number of games played out of sequence. Even though it is a full round robin, players do not have the right to manipulate the order in which it is played. This can give some players an unfair advantage. A decision is pending to see if a playoff for the pairs will be replayed.

The Four Ladies are:
Olivia Curreen, Colleen Curreen, Stacey Heavey, Lou Williams. Reserve Jeanette Scott.

The four Ladies pairs for APDE pairs are:
Olivia & Colleen, Peggy & Stacey, Lou & Loretta, Jeanette and Maine.

Club Night Results 29/8/13

The numbers were down this week as there was a playoff for the APDE singles.
After the qualifying rounds The last 8 in the singles were:
David Day, Mike Day, Stephen Holt, Wills Terore Snr, Wills TeRore Jnr, Joseph Gallina, Dean Webster & Mike Radford.

The final of the Club singles saw Mike defeat Dean Webster 2-1.
