Finishing on 133

Most people trying to finish a leg on 133 would go T20, T19, D8. If you would like to give yourself a higher chance and play the percentages another way to consider is T14, T17 and D20. The reason being if you miss T14 and dart drops into triple 11 to score 33 you still have two darts left for the two dart 100 finish. It is the only way that gives you still a chance if you throw a bad dart and miss the triple you are aiming for on 133. Another reason I like it is if you hit a single 14 to leave 119 and throw at triple 19 with second dart then miss that with second dart and hit single 19 to leave 100 and one dart in hand it leaves double 20 nice for next turn if you sneak the triple 20 with the last dart.

I always go this way in practice and in games and it is automatic now without thinking. Since I have been doing it I have managed to finish on it once in a competition game. The time I did it I missed the triple 14 and hit the triple 11 so the percentages paid off. Slightly better odds at getting it than the more conventional way.

Coaching Tips

If you click on the link below it takes you to the Darts Federation of Australia site and some coaching information with instruction on stance, grip and other dart throwing techniques. One of the better I have seen. It is especially good for players just starting out and learning.

PDC World Cup of Darts NZ v Croatia

If you didn't know, SKY TV is showing the PDC World Cup of Darts from Hamburg Germany, some of it live. One of the live matches early this morning was NZ v Croatia. The first round stage is a group format with 3 teams in each group. The other team in the Kiwi's group is Australia. NZ are represented by Phil Hazel and Craig Caldwell

NZ 3 v Croatia 5 (Robert Marijanovic and Tonci Restovic) First to 5 Legs
Croatia shot to an early 2-0 leg lead, Marijanovic throwing three 140s. Phil had a slow start for NZ but Craig was throwing good high scoring darts on his World Cup debut. The Kiwis fought back to go 3-2 up as Phil found some form to go with Craig's. The sixth leg was crucial and Craig threw another 180 and then just missed double 15 for a 150 finish on his next visit to the board. Restovic hits double 18, it's 3-3. In the seventh leg Phil missed one dart at double 8 for the leg, Restovic hits tops, 3-4 Croatia. The Croatians also won the eighth leg  for an eventual 5-3 win after Craig missed one dart at the bull on an 84 finish.
Some nice darts were thrown by Craig and he impressed the Sky TV commentators, but the Kiwis now have to beat Australia convincingly in the final group game to qualify for the last 16 round which will be a tall order against Simon Whitlock and Paul Nicholson... but not impossible... Go Kiwis !

Thanks To All The Blog Readers

I started this blog about 4 years ago. When it started I got about 10 hits a day. I have the stats for January just gone and hits are now 164 per day or 5,050 for the month. I hope to improve on what we are doing this year and try and be more informative. When the blog started I was the only writer but as time has gone by I have had a lot of help from others. People have sent me photos, posters and results. Just recently Mike Radford of West City Darts has started writing some darts articles. My contributions are under name Arrow Miss while Mike's are under name Rockirad. If you want to contribute just send your results, photo and info to me at peterpage@xtra.co.nz. It can be anything from a photo of a nice dart shirt, a match result or a funny dart story.
